Community Event Background
Schmiggity’s is a local bar in Steamboat Springs, CO that hosts a country music community event every Tuesday night focused on dancing instruction. By offering a free community event, they encourage people to also do business with their bar through purchasing drinks during the course of the evening as patrons and participants learn new dance moves.
For me personally, this was my first time dancing with another woman to a country music song. But more importantly: I learned how a community comes together around two-step country line dancing, which evolves to Steamboat, CO’s cowboy cha-cha with the beats of Brooks & Dunn. The people were so friendly and welcoming, especially for a guy that came alone without a partner. Another woman was willing to dance with me and let me learn something new as she taught me how to lead on the dance floor.
The peak experience for this community event involves two opportunities for participants: dancing and learning. For participants, their peak experience is having the opportunity to dance to country music while either learning or improving a repeatable pattern of dance moves. For spectators, their peak experience is observing the people dancing and watching the different dance moves that are represented throughout the evening.
